Welcome to the Third Grade
The Third Grade team seeks to establish a caring community of lifelong learners striving for excellence. We dedicate ourselves to a nurturing environment where young people are excited about learning.

Third Grade Curriculum

Third graders are taught the Sunshine State Standards in all subject areas: reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and health. The students are given standardized tests in the second semester of the school year. They are tested using FCAT reading and math. The following general topics are part of the basic curriculum.

Language Arts:

Use comprehension reading strategies to make connections from text-to-self, text-to-world, and text-to-text.

Use Literacy First reading strategies to decode words and comprehend text.

Use the power writing process to draft, revise, and produce published pieces.

Math:

Use geometry, number sense, algebraic thinking, data analysis and probability, and measurement to solve real world problems.

Science:

Study nature of matter, energy, force and motion, processes that shape the earth, earth and space, processes of life, how living things interact with their environment, and the nature of science.

Social Studies:

Locate places and events using maps, globes, and time lines.

Study ancient civilizations including China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages

Study citizenship
