Welcome To Guidance Services at Lake Como Elementary
Guidance services are accessible for all students and families at Lake Como. The school counselor is a certified professional educator who assists students, teachers, parents and administrators through counseling, coordination and consultation services. The school counselor is part of the Orange County Public Schools and is committed to the development of the total child and the formation of productive, responsible citizens by addressing skills that will promote and enhance learning. These skill areas are divided among academic development, career development and personal/social development. Examples of specific skills are the decision-making, conflict resolution and study skills. Counseling services include:

Individual counseling and small group of students with identified special needs.

Coordination service include:

Providing a preventative developmental guidance program through classroom guidance for all students which includes opportunities for developing understanding of self, understanding behaviors, making effective decisions, developing positive study habits and attitudes and relating education to the world of work.

Identifying the needs and attributes of students from student records and communicate appropriate information to parents, school personnel and other authorized persons.

Facilitating Educational Planning Team meetings and referral procedures for psychological testing, articulation and follow-up procedures for students moving from school to school and for programs within the school.

Acting as a school based liaison between the school and community agencies (i.e. Florida Dept. of Children and Family services, Mental Health Centers, County Health Dept., etc.)

Consultation Service include:

Consulting with parents, school and out-of-school agencies concerning student problems and needs.

Working closely with school personnel and parents to assure appropriate educational placement of students.

Serving as a consultant to school personnel and parents to discuss individual student concerns.
